Lying Scientists

BBC News and Nature both report today's released finding from a Seoul University committee investigation of South Korean Cloning Scientist Hwang Woo-suk, who in 2004 claimed his team produced a line of stem cells from a cloned embryo.  "The 2004 paper was written on fabricated data to show that the stem cells match the DNA of the provider although they didn't," said the committee panel.  "[Hwang's team] did not have any proof to show that cloned embryonic stem cells were ever created."

The press release has created a ruckus in South Korea, where Hwang was exalted as a scientific hero.

Further marring the South Korean cloner's reputation is evidence that he pressured female colleagues to donate their eggs for cloning research.  Sounds like stuff from Marvel comic books.
